I always find January a very slow month, especially now that Christmas is over, so I like to make the most of it and embrace my inner hygge. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll probably know that I LOVE my cosy night ins and fairy lights so ‘hygge’ comes quite naturally for me. For those of you that don’t know, hygge is a Danish word and is basically the concept of nice, cozy, safe and togetherness. About this time last year, I uploaded a blog post on Hygge room decor but today I wanted to focus on ‘hygge’ activities which are perfect to do in Winter.
1 – Make Yourself a Hot Drink
There is nothing more comforting than a warm drink, especially when it’s cold outside. I love pretty much any hot drinks: hot chocolate(especially if it’s loaded with cream and marshmallows), coffee, tea, chai lattes – the possibilities are endless.
2 – Take a Winter Stroll
I love taking walks at pretty much any time of the year, they are the perfect way to appreciate nature and I always feel so much more relaxed. There’s nothing better than coming in from a cold, winter’s stroll to a warm, comforting meal – especially if it’s a Sunday Roast!
3 – Light Some Candles
There is nothing that screams hygge more than candles! They add a cosy glow to any room and perfect for when the weather is on the chilly side. During Winter, I tend to opt for candle scents that are quite warm and heavy – Homesense have a great selection.
4 – Have a Movie Evening
Pile up on the popcorn, turn on your fairy lights and snuggle up under copious amounts of blankets to watch a movie. During Winter, especially because the evenings are so dark and cold, I wayy prefer to stay inside and get cosy. If you’re looking for a film to watch, I’ve uploaded a blog post on ’10 Winter Themed Films’.
5 – Make the Most of Blankets and Cushions
I find blankets and cushions really comforting and perfect on my bed for if I’m cold in the middle of the night. For Christmas, I got some new Winter bedding and it looks so cute on my bed!
